As a husband and wife team, we believe "The Good Life" is simply a good life built, in part, through great design. For us, design is life. That's why the work we do on behalf of clients is woven within the work we do on behalf of our children and community. We partner with clients who share our commitment to creativity, integrity and craft, so every day we can contribute something of beauty, value and conscience.

My Roots: Born and raised in Indianapolis, I grew up in the thick of Midwestern values. Then, like many young men on a quest, I moved west to make something of myself. Today, my life is built from the best of both these worlds: I embrace loyalty, integrity, a strong faith and hard work. I value family, community, culture, freedom, exploration and adventure. I share in life and design with my wife and favorite collaborator, Katie Emrich. Together, we’re raising four kids, making art, making dinner and trying to fend off surprise attacks from that one murderous Lego lying in wait on the living room floor.
My Chops: I grew up in design firms, hustled as an in-house art director, and built my own design firm, twice. Now, I work wholly as a brand partner offering creative strategy, integrated design and custom illustration. In other words, I live in the space of big ideas, bankable strategy and detailed execution. I understand design is not design for design’s sake, and great design serves well beyond taste. Great design functions beautifully, it becomes embedded in people’s lives and it always delivers on the bottom line.
My Philosophy: When a client comes to me with an idea, inspiration or a problem to solve, I dig in deep. I have to. I think everyone should. That’s how we cut to the quick of what sells, what lasts and why. It’s the story behind the story that differentiates you. So, you want to know the real story behind prohibition or the rise of organized crime in America? Ask me. Want to know the historical context for every fairy tale in the canon? Ask me. Want to know about punk rock and pulp fiction, rebel scientists and atomic energy, low brow art, Geishas, film noir, the topography of Utah, Nabokov’s hobbies or how long it takes a Golden Retriever to gut a tennis ball? Ask me.
My Roots: I grew up climbing orange trees and collecting shells in the sugar sand near Fort Myers, FL. Then, my dad, a Pastor, accepted a position at a church in Longmont, CO, and my family traded the Gulf Coast for the Rocky Mountains. Off I went to college to study graphic design, and along the way I finally met “This Josh Guy” all my friends kept telling me about. While Josh is a more conceptual artist, I appreciate executing the painstaking details of a design — whether it’s on a product label or my children’s handmade Halloween costumes.
My Role: Josh and I are partners in the business like we’re partners in life. It’s my role to make room for creativity while fostering harmony, hospitality and stability. As a designer myself, I work with Josh as a sounding board, offering input and creative counterpoints from a fresh and feminine perspective. Meanwhile, as Josh focuses on clients and craft, I support our business as an office manager and accountant, making sure that Josh doesn’t spend too much of what we earn on “research.”
My Philosophy: The most important thing to me is consistency. I believe you must always do your best, all the way down to the details. I suppose it’s partly because I’m the eldest of four preacher’s kids: I grew up hardwired to show up with focus, commitment and grace. But, it’s also because I value beauty and excellence. I think Josh and I are a great match, and we do great work for our clients because we both believe that design is like life. You must explore with curiosity, passion and commitment. And if you find yourself with questions, you find yourself some answers.
